   It’s hard to talk about #Bluesky without talking about the culture that exists right now. Here’s how I’d describe it:
   
   1. Avoidant of earnest
   2. Faux ironic
   3. Kind of funny but not really
   4. “Unserious” to avoid critique
   5. Aspirational clout-chasing
   
   Bluesky is the only place on the Internet where the word “nerd” is intended as a serious insight.

     I once called #Bluesky a bunch of clout chasers and the immediate reply was, “I refuse to believe that you don’t use social media for vanity.”

     I do lots of things for vanity, but not for clout.
     
     I own 800 albums in physical format because I’m vain.
     
     But clout chasing? No, I’m at the stage in life where pursuing clout would hurt me more than help me.

     Peter Thiel invested in Facebook because he said it was the only application in silicon valley that would monetize the ideas of Rene Girard.

     That quote is an example of status seeking through social media.
