In early 2020 I was drafting a blog post about projects to crowd-source information about street trees. I was annoyed that so many projects (including ones with "open" in their names) created closed silos of data from the free contributions of volunteers. I was trying to come up with a simple tool to make it easy for normal people to update trees in OpenStreetMap instead. Then the pandemic happened.
