     @Moon i doubt that 'fact checking' as a journalistic endeavor is even meaningful. It's like saying 'in this part of the newspaper we only publish the truth, the rest is unspecified'.

     @lain @Moon black and white-ing (polarizing) in journalism is a dangerous concept, i think it's harmful. If a fact check goes "Mostly True", "Mostly False" then it's not a factual fact check is it but a subjective fact check. Which is an oxymoron, and also dangerous, a shortsighted step without care for the longterm consequence of "shit what if im wrong based on new facts from 7 days into the future"

     @Moon i think it's just like with any 'institution', they are treated like you can trust them because other people said so, but there are no shortcuts, you have to decide for yourself whether to trust someone or not.

     All journalism is a perspective they want you to see. Gonzo journalism just doesn't hide from it.
     
     So unless journalism becomes distilled down to a series of statements of all available facts leaving the reader to decide it's probably never going to change. And this seems unlikely anyway because the readers need someone to think for them or they won't C O N S U M E

     @Moon @lebronjames75 reading some books on persuasion / propaganda / advertising should be enough to shatter those illusions, but somehow the lessons there are seldomly applied to whatever authority the people want to believe in.

     @lain yeah I think also if you look you realize that fact checking is pretty new as a concept, got perverted quickly, and there's no basis typically to trust these people

     @Moon there was a factcheck about the nordstream pipeline bombing by german state media where they asked a german professor what he thought about the 'c4 explosives in the shape of greenery' and he answered some nonsense. Turns out he or they didn't understand the term 'plant bombs'.

     @lain @lebronjames75 I don't feel like theres an obligation for your media during a war to say "actuallly we're losing" or something like that but more like, once its established that you don't challenge things, during peacetime we can ask if there are still cases where there's a higher duty to not challenge misinformation and if that ever is happening (of course it is but it should be said out loud)
