@shibao @MischievousTomato I am not trying to make "large adjustments" to culture I just think that being a danger to yourself and others because you want to drive somewhere faster makes you a self centered asshole, because it does.

@animeirl @7666 @shibao any kind of rule following correlates with higher intelligence, though

Speeding has a strong correlation with lower intelligence, though given the methodology you could argue it's just getting caught speeding. Interestingly enough, spending more time driving is also correlated with lower intelligence and this is believed to be causative (as in driving more lowers your intelligence)

love 2 have the highest road fatality rate in the developed world 🦅

@animeirl @shibao directly correlated to intelligence no doubt, i for one appreciate the darwinian approach of idiots getting themselves killed, leaving the smarter ones free to travel
however there is the problem of idiots getting others killed, so drive a fast car and evade i guess

@shibao @animeirl y'all got those nice 70 mph speed limits at least, jersey's 65, but don't tell anyone we just do 20 over
-
Embed this notice
speed is directly correlated with both the likelihood of a crash and the chances of severe injury or death.
-

going 20-30 over the speed limit is generally driving dangerously...

@MercurialBlack @7666 @shibao @animeirl no idea, intelligence is a hard thing to measure (or define) anyway.

@lain @7666 @shibao @animeirl How does that work with creativity? I thought creativity and intelligence weren't correlated, but doesn't creativity generally require knowing when to break rules?

Going 20 over isn’t really dangerous in a lot of cases, I do it p often.

@shibao @MischievousTomato Obviously there are some differences but there is little variation in many of the things I actually care about

Okay then, to clarify:
> i don't think the culture of the us is homogenous
It is
> even if so many people can do whatever the fuck they want can they not

@animeirl @shibao does it? i don't know enough to judge

@MischievousTomato @shibao that is what I am saying, yes
-
Embed this notice
@animeirl @shibao why do you think so
-
Embed this notice
@MischievousTomato @shibao because it's objectively not true? the US is pretty homogenous culturally and forces a specific lifestyle
-

@shibao @MischievousTomato
> getting to choose your lifestyle is one of the great benefits of the usa
it's actually not though

On what sort of roads? Like residential areas or like highways that are labeled stupidly low for no good reason?
-
Embed this notice
Not in residential areas obv nor in like dense urban areas where it’s actually dangerous.

In car accident videos, the person driving is almost always doing something completely retarded, not just going fast. Like weaving and driving aggressively.

Last time I asked how you were you were mean, but I'm gonna ask again anyways how are you
-
Embed this notice
Usually you don't feel comfortable driving past a safe speed anyway. Only issue is when you have really wide open roads next to places where kids or construction workers or something might accidentally end up on the street, which is why they like residential areas to have lower limits.

The main irritant is people who drive in the left lane when they are not passing other vehicles, regardless of how fast they think they're driving.
-
Embed this notice
It’s worse when there are ppl in all of the lanes going the same speed and they refuse to move.

@bot @FUCKINGWHOCARESDUDE @MischievousTomato @shibao @animeirl my personal favorites are
>passing going .75 mph faster than the car they are passing
>right turn on red sitting at the light not turning waiting for it to go green.
AHHHHHHH describes my mentality on that.

It's kinda strange but at 40 I have never driven a car and will never own or drive a car. I need others to drive me to places. I just haven't ever wanted or needed a car. I once drove a moped 24 years ago.

There's a segment of road on my daily commute that has a limit of 35 which I regularly run far over on my way to work, especially when I'm running late.
