     @poopniga Intolerating intolerance is not “discrimination” as intolerance is not eligible for societal tolerance, which is why this will not lead to “authoritarianism”.

     According to your logic, countries like Germany or France don't have freedom of speech, since, for example, glorifying National Socialism is a criminal offence in both.

     Unfortunately, many free software enthusiasts hold opinions similar to those of Republican self-proclaimed free-speech extremists.

     Who even decides what is or isn’t an opinion and what is or isn’t allowed to be discussed? And who guarantees that this power isn’t going to be abused? There’s a lot of abuse going on in Europe. Is it ok with you that people are being fined or jailed for victimless crimes like posting a picture on Twitter?

     @newt @poopniga There's little reason to assume that the paradox can't be applied to National Socialism. It's just an example.

     I don't claim anyone to be a Nazi at all, but I do argue that talking about that particular comic and referring to “opinions you don't like” in the same breath implies that NS “is an opinion too”.

     Otherwise, you would be assuming I had referred to anything else than NS – which I hadn't. I had only ever referred to NS itself, but not actual, legitimate opinions.

     @newt @poopniga Since the comic is about National Socialism and you argue that “anybody who posts it says it's okay to discriminate against opinions you don't like”, you seem to imply the National Socialist ideology is a legitimate “opinion”.

     And that's exactly what differentiates, for example, the European understanding of free speech from that of you-can-say-whatever-you-want extremists.

     @pixelcode @poopniga if you read Popper instead of this shitty comic, his words kinda diverge from this. In his opinion, the intolerance begins when one party forgoes reasonable debate and succumbs to violence. Meanwhile, anybody who posts this comic basically says that it’s ok to discriminate against those whose opinion you don’t like.
     
     Countries like Germany or France don’t have freedom of speech, you pointed that correctly.
