   Morning mood: the CNN situation makes it pretty clear that as a Canadian, we're going to have to think about what it is going to be like living next to a brutal dictatorship with mass executions, prison camps, and a flood of refugees coming to our border. It seems in evitable that this is where America is headed. wE are witnessing the death of a democracy in real time. The media is once again going to aid and abet it's destructuon in a race for ratings

   If you might guess, I'm in a a pretty pissy mood this morning.

     I've also had three situations in the last two weeks where Canadian families I know living in the US with young children are actively planning to move back home, because they cannot bear the thought of sending their young children to school.

     As someone who spends their time on stages at conferences and events in cities, like Las Vegas, I'm coming to realize it's only a matter of time before there is a mass shooting in some conference facility somewhere. Now, during stage check, I examine the stage layout to determine where I will try to escape to.

     I have long been thinking as to what Canada should do when the inevitable flood of refugees starts to cross into our border, seeking safety. I thought the 21st-century would be marked by progress. It's likely to witness the destruction of what was once a great country.

     Being 64, I'm coming to accept that my remaining years will probably be characterized by an active and ongoing Civil War south of us. He probably means winter trips to the Caribbean and elsewhere for sunshine and not to the traditional locations of Arizona and Florida.

     We all just witnessed a group of Americans, applauding and cheering sexual assault. It's difficult to reconcile that in my mind that's just for starters it's only a matter of time before they would applaud and cheer mass executions in a public square. It only took Germany in 10 years.

     I keep thinkingpeople think the rule of law is going to save them. But it doesn't seem like it will. And even if any charges, do come, they will probably use this as a means to increase their support even further. That is the destruction of the rule of law right there. When the rule of law is no longer respected, there is no rule of law

     @PaulKidd I propose to my wife at the base of Franz Josef glacier in the south island 34 years ago. It's on my bucket list to go back. If my kids weren't living here, that might be a thought to stay there.

     @spradlig I spend a lot of time talking about demographics from the stage. I think the opportunity of that change comes later than the engineering of the courts and the blatant attempts at theft. Hence, by the time they are dominant, they're move disenfranchised. Just IMHO.

     @jimcarroll White American boomers are dying and younger people are voting more and voting Blue. I don’t know if it’s happening fast enough to overcome the structural advantages the Rethuglican Party has in the long run.

     @Dragon Ya, have to agree with you sadly. It's a worldwide thing. I did keynote duties with Anne Applebaum at an event in Switzerland last year and stayed to listen to her. The insight is chilling, and it's global.

     @jimcarroll We won't need to worry about the American problem, because we have a similar Canadian problem. Not as far along the path, but with less obstacles for tyrants to overcome.

     Canada is just the next Harper away from where America is.

     @Htaggert @jimcarroll DeSatan barely won the first time. But he was re-elected in a landslide, as was Marco Rubio. Biden lost Florida by a larger margin than Hillary. Those are statewide elections, and you can’t blame gerrymandering.

     I’ve lived in Florida 23 years, and I think Floridians are indeed “super weird” 😂.

     @spradlig @jimcarroll it’s maddening the machinations and structures set up to keep these guys in power. Prime example is Florida. It is super easy for people to think Floridians are weird and voted en masse for this current mess- a deeper look shows how he barely won and then redrew the districts…
