    It makes me even angrier than LTT, so much bullshit in this video

      @gamercat Wrong history conclusions, wrong application purpose, that's not how hosters/data centers work. These cards might be useful for small companies with 2-3 strong servers but anything bigger or smaller is built differently than you could benefit from a dedicated Soc on the network card.
      Such a card for say 10-25 Gbit would be ideal for any home computer to have a clean firewall between Windows and the network but anything else is nonsense

      @stanford Offloading stuff to the nic doesnt require a soc tho. Software defined networking might be nice but usually that stuff is on switches/host/nic but it also dont make sense to have a soc for that. So the only use case would be a firewall in front of a device which cant be trusted and those devices dont need more than 10-25 Gbit rn

      @Jain True..

      I can't see any real use case outside the fully proprietary, private cloud sold to you by VMWare..

      Offloading tasks to the NIC is a thing which is useful. But the concept from Nvidia is just wrong.

      I can't do software-defined networking when I need to rely on a router which is on the hardware 😅 (bound to one single server)

      If I have networking stuff that exceeds the limits of software-defined networking, I go cheaper by actually getting real hardware routers.
