   If you want to discover posts and accounts about specific topics, try following hashtags.

   When you follow a hashtag, posts with that tag will automatically appear in your main Home feed even if you don't follow the person who posted it. For example, if you follow #Dogs you will start seeing doggos appear in your main feed.

   To follow a hashtag, search for the tag and then click the follow button in the top right corner of the screen.

     p.s. Had several people asking what to do on servers without many connections to the Fediverse, where hashtags may not produce many results. There are two options:

     -Use groups instead, which push content to you regardless of whether you've federated it before (more info at https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-groups-on-the-fediverse/)

     -Use general and/or topic relays to increase your server's view of the Fediverse (more info at https://fedi.tips/using-relays-to-quickly-expand-a-servers-view-of-the-fediverse/)

     You're assuming that people need to see the entire world in order to see anything at all.

     It's not an all or nothing thing.

     I follow hashtags on tech.lgbt, a relatively small instance, and I bump into interesting accounts all the time. I find it very useful for discovery.

     @feditips It’s not connections to fediverse. It’s the percentage of all fediverse posts that are processed at one’s home instance.

     There really is no workaround. It’s a design problem

     1. Search for a hashtag,
     2. Tap on the tag you want, this will take you to the tag's page where it has a follow button and stats for that tag
     3. Click "Follow" in the top right corner

     From your screenshot, it looks like you tapped on a particular post. Click the "calckey" link at the top to go back to the tag's general page with the follow button on it.

     @feditips ok. I tapped on #calckey. No button and no plus sign. Pixel 6 running mastodon app.
