@privateger@critical you still should be able to selfhost it? but as far as i know critical, he dont want to self host this software... anyway, https://reolink.com/ reolink doesnt require a selfhosted software... if you wana monitor it from anywhere you should be able to with a proper network setup
@critical@privateger no you dont get it, the only thing reolink as a vendor does is to tell the client on which ip address the cam actually is (as far as i read)... so i guess there should not be any security concerns about it but im not sure if its truly like that since i dont have one
@critical buying a domain isnt the issue... imagine you can setup the network and open up a port so that the webcam can be accessed from outside. Well everything works but under which IP? if you dont have a static one then the IP will change somewhen to a new one... As far as i read, the vendor built a system so that your app will know the current IP Address. Thats it, nothing more.
Not sure how the CAM/App work but under such conditions they usually allow to configure a custom IP so you should be able to just buy a static IP from your ISP and then configure this one into the App so you dont need the vendor stuff at all, even tho i dont think that this vendor stuff is a big issue...
Cant verify this statements tho because i dont have such a cam
@Jain@privateger but a webcam wouldn't fare well outside. I want to get one that is designed for outdoor conditions. I could invest in a Pi if it will provide more flexibility. About ip - I think I could buy a domain or something.
@critical@Jain@privateger you can the watch the live feed on it. only movement gets recorded on the sd card and even that can be changed in the setting.
@Jain@privateger@critical have you heard of tp-link? they make decent hardware, i have been using their security cameras for a while now without their subscription. I just put an sd card in the camera and boom! it puts all the recorded movement in that card.
