narcolepsy and alcoholism :flag: (hj@shigusegubu.club)'s status on Monday, 05-Sep-2022 22:47:27 JST narcolepsy and alcoholism :flag: @mergan we can actually apply "stop-gifs" thing natively browser in PleromaFE for gifs but webps and apngs will ALWAYS be animated. Hélène likes this. -

Hélène (helene@p.helene.moe)'s status on Monday, 05-Sep-2022 22:58:07 JST Hélène @hj @mergan only solution to me seems to do a HEAD fetch and check the Content-Type header, honestly
and yeah, i'm seeing that, not an easy task, what mastodon does by generating static files for the emoji on their backend via the proxy makes things easier -

narcolepsy and alcoholism :flag: (hj@shigusegubu.club)'s status on Monday, 05-Sep-2022 22:58:08 JST narcolepsy and alcoholism :flag: @helene @mergan because there's no way we can tell what type of an image it is, we only guess it's a gif (and therefore 90% chance it's animated one) by file extension in the URL (or mime-type for attachments). And we do use first frame with canvas to "freeze" them, the only problem is that it can look like ass due to scaling artifacts (that we sorta cannot avoid), plus we show a "gif" indicator for frozen images and that would be shown everywhere.
