You know that there's something just basically *wrong* in macroeconomics when great employment figures are treated by the government as a bad thing and an excuse to make ordinary people's lives even harder by endlessly raising interest rates to "fight inflation."

@lauren Yes, inflation is always most brutal on the working class. I'm just barely old enough to remember 1978-1981 and how the word alone would cause massive, mysterious helplessness and angst in adults.

@lauren I'm a fan of Biden's current work, but, we shouldn't forget, he's the one that gave the keys to the kingdom to finance parasites in those laws passed 2005-2006.

@lauren Higher rates really do lower (experienced) inflation and crush scam businesses based on money velocity. This is why folks hate them.

@M_U And they destroy people who have to live hand to mouth on credit cards with predatory interest rates, which is most people.

@M_U I frankly don't care what he did almost 20 years ago. My point is that no really qualified, really stable person can be expected to *want* to be president, and history seems to bear this out. The level of masochism required to go through the process is itself suspicious.

@lauren It mostly shows that the whole nation is a prisoner of the south, Trump/Biden are the two candidates again because the south loves Trump and Joe is the last Dixiecrat in some ways. You can't win the primary if the south hates you. That's why Bernie was never a national candidate.

@M_U He was the right person to keep Trump from being reelected, and he's no doubt the right person for that again now. BUT, the fact that we're dealing with a Biden-Trump rerun shows that our federal election system is deep into Kafkaesque territory.

@lauren He's the right person for the job now, though we all wish we could physically take a decade or three off him.
