So wait if #bluesky is an open and distributed protocol, why do people need to get on a wait list to get permission to join? Does it have a central authority? :blobcatthink:

@Polychrome Basically, they made some promises, but they have a lack of everything and it's built like a central service as far as i saw from others

@Polychrome Yes. If you read the protocol docs the killer feature the DID (decentralised ID that allows true nomadic identity) is fake. They have a centralised server that allocates new DIDs for users and acts as the directory service. It’s called “DID Placeholder” as they can’t work out how to do it properly. Properly will almost certainly turn out to be blockchain NFTs.
