   @matt This is currently already possible with the activitypub plugin implementation for wordpress. You can add tags to your Wordpress blog, which function as hashtags, but do not show up in the body of the text. If you then search for those hashtags on Mastodon, the wordpress blogpost will show up.

   So it feels like a matter of time before some client also implements this feature

     Also, I cringe every time I put hashtags in my posts. I hate them with a passion. It’s not a Mastodon thing, I hated them on Twitter, I hate them on Instagram, and I hate them here equally.

     It would be great if I could tag my posts with labels (like blogs) so that they’re categorized, but don’t impede the reading experience. Also, hashtags must be so annoying for people with screen readers, no?
