Nostr dev drama can be summed up as:
1. "Fuck you, pay me"
2. Forgetting you're Genghis Kahn-

I suppose it's nice devs are not at total war yet, like how they are on the Fediverse. But it's important to remember that "extend, embrace, extinguish" only applies to mega corporations, not some guy. Devs reserve the right to attract the most users and then break compatibility. The way to fight back is to attract even more users. The Genghis Khan mentality wins, in this network of chaos. -

@alex How much of this dev drama is predicated on identity politics? -

None but when you see everything through the identity politics prism everything looks like identity politics to ya Alex Gleason likes this. -

@alex Very surprising given the (recent) history of open source dev in general. -

@butterdog @alex Identity politics doesn't thrive in a competitive, creative environment. It can only take over established or mature organizations.
Nostr is still in the rapid building stage. Once that cools down, THEN they need to watch out. I hope they're ready to do some gatekeeping when it happens.Alex Gleason likes this. -

@PunishedD @alex I'm not in the Nostr world at all, is it set up the same way as, say, Python where there is a dictator that can make decisions and can be corrupted? -

@butterdog @PunishedD Not really. There are way too many cooks. I'm already concerned for it. But I think overall the community is a better group of people, and they're also a lot more active. So I think when it inevitably melts down there will be something worth saving. -

@alex If zaps had splits like we created with podcasting 2.0 v4v streaming payments, everyone would benefit. I don't know if this can be built in anymore, but that's been the key motivator for us. Everyone gets a piece of value if they are in the value chain.
