If you want to transfer your Mastodon account from one server to another, here's a step by step guide on how to do it:
(I've re-written and extended the version previously posted, to make everything clearer. The old version left some things unclear.)

I think it's because the transferring of follows and settings through the CSV files was possible a long time before the transferring of followers.
As the two processes were written at different times, they ended up being separate.
This separation isn't obvious to users, which is why I've tried to combine them in the guide. (And that's why it's got so many steps ? )

still weird in my opinion that following the official guide for transferring the accounts only transfers followers and creates a redirect, and nothing else (not even auto-following all the of the users of the old one!)

@feditips you missed adding a delay between steps 2 and 3. I found it best to wait about 5 minutes otherwise the transfer tool will think no alias exists and fail

It should be exactly the same for moving from any Masto instance to any other Masto instance, as long as the software version is up to date on both.
I'm not sure if there are complications with forked versions of Mastodon, but vanilla Masto should be fine.

@feditips Thanks for this! I am interested if the process is the same if I setup my own instance as moving to another. I may want to do this sometime.
