Nothing like a conversation with some trans friends that basically ends with, "Wow, you've got a long way to go, don't you." Yeah, I do. It was meant in the spirit of friendship, but still pretty depressing to hear.

There's a practice to learning how to give uplifting feedback, and it seems your interlocutor could do with some more practice themself.
