Here’s the thing I don’t think some people understand. “No hate watching” doesn’t just mean “don’t pay for it” it means don’t give it any attention. Don’t talk about it, even how bad it is.
If you’ve ever done any research in how to market anything you’ll know that people talking about it negatively will also draw attention. People will see the negative press and want to know if it’s really that bad. Just because you haven’t paid for it doesn’t mean you aren’t earning them money in some other way. You talking about how bad it is will subconsciously generate interest in it.
There’s something known as “active” as “passive” marketing. Active is things like producing advertisements, trailers, the usual sorts of things. Passive marketing is a little bit more subtle; it includes things like people critiquing and reviewing the work or product, both negative and positive reviews are equally considered passive marketing.
So it doesn’t really matter that you didn’t pay for it, you paid attention to it and so you’ve done their job whether you realize it or not.
