Do people really think Starbucks is still "trendy?" Do people still think baristas are hipster snobs and not just beleaguered hospitality workers that know how to use proprietary equipment?

@PonyPanda the real trendy shit rn is buying beans and making your own grounds then using an aero press or something, Starbucks is on the same level as Dunkin Donuts

@grumbulon I think I'm seeing this retard delivering a generic diatribe against an extinct stereotype.
I know you're also Australian so going out for coffee will always be espresso. But in America they still have their drip brew so that might be the standard while espresso is considered a luxury.

@PonyPanda but yes, here there's a lot of people that either deal with Keurig, or some form of drip brewing

@PonyPanda yes I think so, most people here that I personally know think I'm bougie for grinding my own beans and owning a french press. owning an espresso machine is simply out of the question I think. Most people are happy to go to Starbucks, Dunkin, or a gas station and buy a coffee, brewing at home is niche and owning an espresso machine is niche even within the niche

@grumbulon would they consider espresso coffee to be fancy and exotic and carry that stereotype about the people who make it and drink it?

@PonyPanda yeah the luxury is all face value, it is not exclusive. I would wage you could find an equal amount of Starbucks as you could other big coffee brands like Tim Hortons or Dunkin. The luxury is derived purely from the funny size names and sickeningly sweet drinks, because it's not coffee it's like a little candy drink thing
also any Starbucks I've been in has no hospitality, it's the same as anywhere else you go to the counter and order. The biggest selling point there is they're usually nicer looking and cleaner than most Dunkin donuts I've ever been in

@grumbulon I'm not talking about home preparation. I'm talking about hospitality. I'm trying to reconcile what I imagine Starbucks is now in America, a fixture in every suburban shopping mall, with the reputation Starbucks had in the 90s that this moron seems to be evoking.

@mushroom_soup @grumbulon that's what I thought.
I don't think hipsters even exist anymore. Everyone's tastes just sort of blended together. At least that's how it is here. I don't know if there's something different about America that retains that delineation between hipsters and non-hipsters.

@PonyPanda @mushroom_soup I don't think I've seen someone that can be identified as a hipster from a distance since 2012, everyone just looks the same and consumes the same stuff now :sadpepe:

@mushroom_soup @grumbulon I was hoping you'd show up.
Would anybody mistake you for a hipster? You're interested in art but your taste in art is anathematic to hipsterdom because you like neoclassical.
Also: Do hipsters hang out at your Starbucks? If they even still exist that is.

@PonyPanda @grumbulon someone might mistake me for a hipster at work because i have fun pins on my hat. i don't have any tattoos though so possibly not. also because my starbucks is in a target there aren't many people besides soccer moms who hang out there
