Before Skype everyone used MSN, Yahoo! Messenger, and ICQ, now nobody even knows what those are.
Meanwhile, I'm still using XMPP and IRC (though far more active on IRC because that's where all the action is) today without any problems, and perhaps these 2 will even survive the next 5 world wars while all the others are only going to exist for 2 decades at most, which at this moment seems like the only one who will manage to reach that mark will be JewTube, but they still have 2 more years to collapse before that.-

skype was too big to fail. everyone used it!
one day, skype bloated itself with garbage to the point that everyone hated it, and left to go hang out with their friend discord
