   Apparently the birdsite is having some issues this morning because of its API changes that took down its own analytics and have now broken all images and outbound links.

   Meanwhile, images and outbound links continue to work just fine (and without tracking analytics) here in the fediverse.

     @mmasnick It is hilarious to me that while their antifeatures were breaking their own web UI, presumably Nitter would have had fully functional images and links.

     @mmasnick I can’t test it but reports that everything using the api is down. Including Tweetdeck.

     Which I will not be surprised if Tweetdeck never comes back. Because:
     A. Musk can’t be bothered to look into how power users use Twitter
     B. Twtteddck makes him no money because it shows no ads

     Thinking about that last bit - it will be hilarious if this entire downtime is b/c he forced his team to push ads to the api and since they have no test environment, they just did it live.

     @mmasnick The point of building version one is to build the team that can build version two.

     Someone else can build Twitter today with more success than Twitter can. They're partly stuck with "can't get there from here," but also fired the people who know why they didn't do the things that they didn't, or backed out.

     @mmasnick he definitely should commit everyone to a full rewrite. Nothing ever went wrong attempting to rewrite a very complex, giant, decades old distributed system with a skeleton team of hostage software devs. I dare him. ?
