    This podcast is amazing. They didn’t barely even TOUCH the transgender issue yet. They went straight into evangelicals trying to ban Harry Potter in the 90s.

      First episode down, nothing terribly interesting that I didn't know about yet except how abusive and stalker-y her ex-husband is.

      @feld It meant a lot to me. This is the quintessential moment of the past few years of my life being acknowledged in the public sphere. I think it’s important to see how much this woman struggled, and I’m inspired by how much she overcame it.

      The fact that deluded men in dresses have hateboners for both of you creates an interesting parallel.

      I see so many parallels between Incels and Transsexuals (post 1990s) that it's scary. Rejected by peers/women/etc, but finding solace in shared ideals. To boil it down to a slightly crude statement: It's basically Tumblr headmates IRL.

      some of the same people that will tell you how easy access to guns leads to murders/suicides because people in poor mental health make bad snap decisions don't seem to be able to draw the comparison to "people in poor mental health making bad snap decisions" in other contexts

      a friend of mine has an ex who is trans and she transitioned back when you had to go through a period of MH counseling / psychiatric evaluation before transitioning and even she believes that should be the standard

      It seems like our giant gap in mental health services in this country (and many around the world) is a problem that needs to be addressed. Depression, loneliness, suicides, violence / school shootings, the scary "trans epidemic" right wingers bang on about -- quality, compassionate, and accessible mental health services would likely have a huge impact on people's quality of life and eliminate a lot of divergent behaviors we're seeing in society right now

      I have zero malice towards trans people. Give them all the support we possibly can from the medical community. The deserve to be happy and healthy etc etc.

      JKR is basically like "I've been raped and firmly believe that women should not be forced to include cis-men in groups/spaces for cis-women as it violates the feeling of a safe space for us" and "we need to use a more thorough vetting process before starting the transitioning process for children" which is completely reasonable

      but believing this somehow puts you in the camp of "you want to erase all trans people". It doesn't make any sense.

      @feld @Moon @flappypaddle This.

      The current trans movement tries to bully people with unreasonable demands, and this is a perfect example of that. It should be totally accepted for female RAPE VICTIMS to not have to have random mentally ill men walking around in their rape shelters at night.

      The fact is, there IS a difference between the sexes. It’s easy to forget this in internet world, but when you go outside and live like a normal person for a bit, it’s abundantly clear.

      Personally, I have never had a problem with trannies except that I politely disagree with them. They (not all) had a problem with me.

      yeah that's my point. because she's a rape victim and presumably her support network of peers to help her with that traumatic experience want the same thing which is why she's been vocal about it.

      it makes sense. it's a completely reasonable and benign request IMO

      @feld @alex @flappypaddle didn't she also say that there should be spaces for cis women without trans women, honest question

      Making tits bigger is done because the person still isn't happy with how they physically are. I wouldn't place it the same with inverting your ballsack after removing your meaty bits, but it still has to do with a bit of body dysphoria and/or fetish/sexual purposes.

      @flappypaddle @feld @alex tbh it annoys me that if you want hormones to go from female to male that is okay but if i want some of the same hormones to go from beta male to alpha male i am prevented from doing so. for the purposes of discussion this is a joke

      The short of it is: Carving up your body to look like something you aren't does not make it reality.

      @feld @alex @flappypaddle for the sake of argument let's say i actually believed in intersectionality, assuming no other practical objection, philosophically it seems like concerns of cis women could be distinct from trans women to merit separate spaces. but for any particular space i suppose there could be arguments that the distinction is relevant or not. for things like rape crisis centers i believe the argument is you might feel bad about the presence of a penis but you should not, or at least your comfort on this issue is a lesser concern than also helping other rape victims. just spitballing here though this is outside my normal thought bubble.

      @feld @Moon @flappypaddle Also, Blanchard’s theory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blanchard%27s_transsexualism_typology

      Also, streamers of Hogwarts Legacy are currently having a “leopards ate my face” moment as they’re getting bullied by the transgender gamers they worship for no good reason.

      @alex consequently, it was also evangelicals that were 90% of the Harry Potter fanbase in the 90s. It wasn’t so cut and dry like that
