    I've seen "Thanos did nothing wrong", I've seen "Griffith did nothing wrong", but nothing compared to seeing "The Drejj did nothing wrong", i.e. the aliens from Titan AE who *blow up the entire Earth.* (Re-upload since I wanted to add alt-text)

      @benjaminhollon No, it's not necessarily a problem. It's part of the narrative tradition, all the way back to Paradise Lost and Richard the Third.

      Is it problematic that I'm writing a story where I'm trying to make the audience feel sympathetic toward a literally genocidal character? XD

      (not that I in any way shape or form endorse genocide)

      @benjaminhollon @nantucketebooks If I were an alien civilization I would absolutely annihilate Earth.

      It's the only way to be sure.

      My thoughts exactly. :)

      I'm also trying not to break my brain with the implications of this being a character who's based on my own personality. XD

      I'm trying to decide if it's thematic brilliance or taking the central story idea of "bad guys may not be who they appear to be" too far. XD

      @benjaminhollon @nantucketebooks But then the twist of the story happens and it turns out that just makes the hairless apes angrier. I should have studied more human SciFi, which would have warned me exactly about this.

      It's the second installment of perhaps my favorite trilogy ever. :)

      @benjaminhollon @nantucketebooks People say good things about Liu Cixin, perhaps I should add these books to my list of books .... that I will read after I retire.

      @clacke @nantucketebooks
      I've recently upgraded him to my favorite sci-fi author. ;)

      I enjoy Ray Bradbury's writing style more, but who knows what I'd think of Liu's, since I've only read translations. Also, while I love Bradbury's style, his actual plots aren't quite as fascinating as Liu's.

      @clacke @nantucketebooks
      (oh, in case it's not clear, I use the Chinese name ordering system with Liu Cixin, putting his family name first. Generally you'll find English translations of his work under "Cixin Liu".)

      @clacke @benjaminhollon @nantucketebooks Well, I'll be one of the naysayers then, I read the first book and really disliked it. The only scenes where the characters had a soul was in the revolution chapters, otherwise they were flat as paper, everything was done before, and the end is just pure magic with sophons that can basically do anything, really did not like it.

      @sotolf @benjaminhollon @nantucketebooks We do it in e.g. phonebooks, then with a comma, "Wallin, Claes", but would you really put the surname first in running text?

      @benjaminhollon @clacke @nantucketebooks

      That's standard in most asian countries, and in Norway for some reason, another help with chinese names is that most of them has two syllables in the first name and one in the surename
