    @nihl Manuals are fine provided you're not doing stop-start city driving.

    It's a real pain in the ass if you have to stop at intersections every 3 minutes in a manual, especially if you've stopped on a slope.

    Meanwhile you don't even have to think about down and up shifting in an automatic - you just brake and accelerate.

      @izaya Automatic gearboxes are somewhat new in france, they were pretty much inexistant 10 years ago, they're now very common and it seems a lot of people are very happy with that.
      If I were to drive cars I'd much rather drive a manual but I can understand why people prefer them over manual if they consider (and most do) cars to be purely utilitarian tools to get from one point in space to another with the least amount of hassle.

      "you don't have to understand how cars work to use them" is where we went wrong tbh
      this wasn't an issue - and isn't an issue - with manual cars
      if you can drive a manual you HAVE to understand the basics, and you'll have more fun driving it anyway
