   DID YOU KNOW? You can actually design electric cars that can charge their batteries WITHOUT AN APP or any computers of any kind? Kind of like how gasoline pumps used to work? Sure, a battery pack with a microcontroller tends to be more efficient, but it is not strictly necessary. The electric motors of the car must be fully computer controlled, but these computers need not be tied to apps either.

   Electric cars all being designed to become useless without an app controlling them is not inherent to electric car technology itself. It is a result of modern day #consumerism (capitalism) where every single business on the face of the Earth gathers data about you, and earns money from selling #ads to you. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THIS WAY. This is what @pluralistic calls #enshitification .

   And I can't wait to hear people argue with me about how gasoline-fueled cars are better and more reliable because their engines work just fine without apps or cell phones. Electric cars could be this way too, but due to the way businesses make money nowadays, they do not.

     @ramin_hal9001 Oh man until now I haven't really thought about that. I buy low-end junkmobiles that are as simple electrically as possible, but my next car once this one dies will be an EV (never a T*sla tho) and, ugh. I have to figure out how to hack my own car now to disable this shit, don't I? Fucking SIGH. @pluralistic

     @ramin_hal9001 @pluralistic seems like Tesla SW developers were busy working on birdsite and had no time as they have mandatory obligation to like each Elon's tweet on Valentine's Day, while he tweeted every second because of his loneliness and crave for attention :BlobHajMlem:

     @ramin_hal9001 @pluralistic In not too many years, it will be impossible to fuel petrol based cars in the event of an internet failure, as there will be no way to pay for the fuel.

     @ramin_hal9001 @pluralistic Teslas are at the extreme end of enshitification, but their being electric has nothing to do with it.

     Example: IIRC modern Mercedes ship with heated seats, but you have to pay a monthly fee to turn them on.

     @fishidwardrobe @pluralistic @ramin_hal9001 A Tesla not charging because of a server issue feels like peak #enshittification , but that's only because I lack the imagination to picture the next, bigger, local peak.

     @ramin_hal9001 @pluralistic Gas-powered cars are already moving in this direction anyway. A friend of mine bought a new vehicle in 2021 and you can't see certain information without the app. You also can't remote start it without the app. How long before you can't even drive it without their stupid app?
