I believe there's also some research about teaching immune systems to recognise foreign tissue (e.g. transplanted organs) as their own, so immunosuppressants aren't needed.

and the big tell about how this is not a binary choice of which cells are right or wrong is some people are born with chimerism: two different sets of working DNA spread randomly for every cell -

If they don't self-destruct, it's only when they become a major threat / express foreign antigens that they're dealt with (afaik) (and even then, sometimes they're not).
