@Mrfunkedude Not only will I ignore this, I'll actively run distraction, by asking staff to check if they have something "out the back", or absorbing them in some random conversation.
@artilectzed@Mrfunkedude long ago I once stole a sandwich from the refrigerator at work. I felt so guilty. but it was late, I was hungry AF, and I was penniless
@rorystarr@Mrfunkedude Sometimes workers cannot afford to buy the products of their labor. The illegal guys made even less than me. And they still sent half of it back to their parents in Chihuahua.
@DrKen@Mrfunkedude@rorystarr Can I challenge you to say undocumented instead of illegal? No human being is illegal and undocumented border crossing is typically not a criminal offense, it's administrative.
@biplanepilot@DrKen@rorystarr do you know what? Can I just say, that I applaud the way you approached Ken about this? It did not degrade them, nor did it chastise them.
@Mrfunkedude@DrKen@rorystarr As someone who strives to be an ally to undocumented people I have the privilege of not being directly affected by the unintentional offense, so it's easier to be patient, and assume good faith.
@DrKen@Mrfunkedude no, no, it was also me. I was ordered, as a punk kid in 1983 working at a Michele's Baguette, ORDERED, to throw away all of the bread at the end of each day. I dutifully placed all 12 or so pounds of baguette, croissant and other pastry into a black trash bag and hauled it straight to the Fair Oaks theater in Fairfield Virginia where the punks were waiting in the parking lot for #RockyHorrorPictureShow to start and gave them away. Every Friday and Saturday we were well fed!
@DrKen@biplanepilot@Mrfunkedude@rorystarr This right here is why I love the fediverse. This kind of respectful discourse is exceedingly rare on other platforms, but I see variations of it daily here.
