This is probably (hopefully?) my last instance move for awhile. Now on mastodon, on my own domain, and it's vanilla mastodon so I'm now stuck at the vanilla 500 character cap :( . @mastohost, is there a way to get an increased character cap? Plz? also, i hope glitch-soc support is possible some day (hopefully soon?)

Masto.host (mastohost@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 12-Feb-2023 02:32:38 JST Masto.host @timelordiroh Mastodon doesn't provide any setting to change the number of characters. It is possible to do it but it requires changing the actual Mastodon code and that is not possible on my platform. Everyone I host shares the same code and running the native code is the only way I can automate upgrades and maintenance. Sorry. If Mastodon does offer a setting to change the number of characters in the future, just ping me and will gladly change it for you.

Masto.host (mastohost@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 12-Feb-2023 02:41:44 JST Masto.host @timelordiroh Nop, the .env.production options on mainline Mastodon are https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/config/
There is no option to change the character number, it's hardcoded.

Or does that variable only work in modded code bases?
