     If you want to read a cool story about a boy who becomes a magician, I'd recommend the Riftwar books beginning with Magician: Apprentice by Raymond E. Feist.

     It's not written like you're a child, either, but I read it when I was literally a child and I understood it, which I guess qualifies it as a children's book.

     Yo, I read those stories, too, because it was kind of neat to read a children's book as a lark but you know that was just a CHILDREN'S BOOK and it really wasn't that amazing considering *looks around* literally all the other books out there, I promise you you're not missing much.
