Why are you choosing to consume content from evil companies?
The particular arrangement someone has with their employer or whatever is irrelevant. That figure is based on what they expect to earn from their work. Sure, you individually stealing everything you consume is negligible really, but there are a lot of thieves like you.
I'm saying that the average Joe is paid before the product is shipped and the impact piracy has on any individual is negligible. Plus there's the UN report that suggests that piracy has a positive net effect if anything. Besides which most of these companies are evil, fuck em
Right, I’m sure all of the pirates identified themselves and participated in these “studies”, that data is definitely airtight. You leeching off others is a benefit… in the form of “exposure”, it makes perfect sense.
That proves absolutely nothing.. it wasn’t released “because it determined that there is no evidence that piracy is a major problem.”
That’s simply impossible to determine in a scientific way. The fact is that you exploit others for your personal benefit and then label them as “evil” because it’s convenient to your internal narrative that avoids taking responsibility for being an immoral leech.
Oh sorry, it was the EU suppressing it that I remembered. Anyway here you go. You're welcome to attempt to prove that software piracy hurts somebody but be forewarned that even if you can, I'm going to say
A. Screwing bad people is based B. It's not stealing if they haven't lost anything
>exploit others See that's where you lose me. The effect on the producer is identical whether I benefit or not. Why not benefit. If I had a magic wand that could make a copy of your car, it may not be fair to you that you paid for it and I didn't, but you're not hurt by it
Piracy is only justified in certain circumstances. If I were to pirate audiobooks, I’d buy the book after if it was good. 9/10 audiobooks are garbage and I shouldn’t have to pay thousands to get a good book. Those authors shouldn’t be supported.
Only the good authors like Void Herald should benefit
The difference with that is, most people aren’t going to go to thousands of new restaurants And if the meal is actually really horrible you do often get your money back - as long as you don’t eat much.
If I listen to a garbage audiobook, I’ll maybe get an hour into it and I’ll know for sure it’s trash. If it’s 15 hours long then I’m within an acceptable range
You can even return audiobooks on audible, but there’s a limit to the returns you can do and a trash author may be given a head pat
Right, you can return basically anything you purchase legitimately, that’s why I think this is a cope. I think the one area where there’s room for argument is subscriptions, but even then it still doesn’t justify piracy and theft.
But there’s a limit. I’ve had books where the MC was a nigger or a dick sucking homo and I was glad I pirated them. Deleted them and those authors are on my never to support list. But there’s a bunch of authors on my almost always buy list since I want to support their work
There should be a limit though. I’m not sure how audiobook sales work but every paper book has a synopsis that should be enough to determine whether you’re interested.
I wish! ? audible has 5 minute samples you can also listen to and decide if you like the narrators voice as well as a synopsis but sometimes you get bamboozled
I think audible has 3 returns available per month if you’re not too far into a book.
