Government, agencies, companies came to rely on the API to build digital infrastructure.

Everyone presumed a public utility, because for years, it supported the same. Folks trusted that it would support the API.
I guess they were wrong.
And so a lot of people will question their assumption going forward.

So it was short-sighted to build infrastructure that depended on a potentially privately held company that could interrupt their service.

@jimcarroll @marq cell phones and the internet aren’t public utilities either. Neither are office supplies. Should the government never buy office supplies? Pretending governments made a mistake by utilizing things the private sector has made would be a bad faith argument if it were an argument at all.
