Dammit, had to reboot my laptop due to some weird UI + mouse issue in freshly installed #Ubuntu 22.04
Now in @matrix I lost almost all my rooms. It shows just some random rooms of the many I was member of. Also lost spaces.
I signed out and in again and re-verified with my old laptop, but that doesn't help.
Anyone know how I can restore them, sync with my #Matrix account again?

@matrix I should add that it is #Element client, really. I don't know exactly which is causing the problem.

Tried that, but no use. Log in and out and re-verify didn't help either.

I'm not sure what the actual issue is. If I try to DM someone I was already connected to, from the corrupted web UI on my new laptop, then the UI acts as a fresh Invite DM. But does not show up to that person.
If on my old laptop with rooms intact, I DM that person my new laptop shows the notication and the room is now listed, shows msg + history.
But when typing in corrupted UI the other person doesn't see it, and on my old laptop warning shield "Unencrypted" shows.

Could rooms be left without admins if they've all been kicked out from this?

Yes, my old laptop is on the same version even, and on GH someone reported that Chrome and Android are still working.
But the corruption may happen (just speculating) by someone sending a malformed msg to a room you are member of and corrupts UI's that are open at that time (my old laptop was not on at the time).
There's a person on GH who says that they are the cause of this.

For that I know too little of stuf under the hood.
But if I had only just one installation I'd be screwed as it is not usable anymore. If trolls can mass-corrupt people's UI's then that's a major issue.
I have an Android phone to fresh install Element on.. will see how it pops up.

@humanetech @matrix I would have assumed it's a UX bug but if it's treated as a security issue then that gives the impression that it actually affects people's accounts. Or, it's a security issue because of the reported strange behaviour when "rejoining" an encrypted room.

On my Android phone I was logged out for a couple of weeks on #Element installed via #FDroid and up-to-date.
After logging in, I had to re-verify the session, and found 8 rooms to be missing. They are not rooms added via my laptop, after logging out on the phone, but rooms that I participate in for a long time.
This looks to be more of an account issue to me.

Oh, the rooms lost are public rooms. I did not count differences in DM rooms.
Also the app lost preferences, like forgot my dark mode setting.

The #matrix #element issue has been triaged and marked "Critical" and "Release blocker".
The suggested workaround of "reload cache" does not work (at least for me and the original poster).

Currently situation still screwed. Results on various clients (excluding around 45 DM rooms):
- Old laptop, web UI: 10 favorited, 38 non-favorite, public rooms --> this is what it should be.
- New laptop, web UI: 0 favorited, 5 public rooms.
- Android Element: 10 favorited, 30 public rooms (briefly dropped to 7 rooms).
- Android FluffyChat: 5 favorited, 31 public rooms.

If you had trouble with missing rooms in #Element-Web then I have good news.
The Element team has been really busy with creating a fix, even working on Sunday. It was #security issue, as explained in a blog post that was just published.
You should update your Element client asap.

I am not sure if this fix also affects the #Android clients. I installed #Element and #FluffyChat from #FDroid too.
Here the rooms issue is different. The #Element app misses 8 of the rooms I'm in. I just discovered that pressing the upside-down antenna icon on the right in the toolbar (don't know what this is named) shows me an unsorted list that has missing rooms in them.
The #ForgeFed room on #Libera chat is one of those missing on Rooms tab
