The proposed EU law Chat Control will not only create a centralized mass surveillance system and violate people's privacy. It will also ban open source operating systems as an unintended consequence.
If and when this law goes into effect it would make illegal the open source software services underpinning the majority of services and infrastructure on the internet.

  well for starters we don't have as many networked surveillance cameras per square meter
  
  we've actually got a prime minister who was elected in a national election
  
  we don't have the same libel laws, and within living memories we had partially dismantled their equivalent (the HRC/HRT system) and removed its basis from our constitution (though our current liberal government reinstated it)
  
  we don't have literally thousands of people being jailed for shitposting on twitter (yet, anyway)
  
  while we did join the TPP and have CSIS/CSEC(among others) watching us, and the federal government is moving on implementing things like internet kill switches, pushing mass surveillance to the edge devices, and regulating social media...we haven't gotten there fully yet. There's a lot of domestic issues that could force a stalemate on these things. We defeated Sam Bulte, even though we lost the broader fight for the WIPOCT and later TPP.
  
  Battles won and lost here can affect europe and vice versa - it's a global fight and most of the important battles are global
  but we do have some advantages over the UK

  There is a EU-Task force on paper that's led by germany and the foundation of a combined army (also commanded by germany lol) was laid down a couple years ago.
  
  It's, like everything EU, a house of cards built by economists and bureaucratic career politicians that will collapse under the slightest pressure.

  there were some things that *did* work
  
  * the secret police and surveillance apparatus
  * the army (in the event that a state like Hungary decided to be too uppity)
  * the state censorship apparatus
  
  The EU is following the same path, and will probably have the same effectiveness in the same areas if it is allowed to do so

  the EU has a military and will use it against states who try to leave just as the confederacy in the US was resisted, especially if it's against a state without nuclear weapons, and the longer the EU consolidates its power the more kapos they will get internal to each nation
