Some good analysis and critical thoughts on recent antifascist mobilizations in the Northeast. Via @/1312FAS
This past weekend, a large crowd of antifascists showed up to support and protect Fall River Pride's Drag Queen Story Hour at the Fall River Public Library. although reactionary presence was mild (a small crowd of under 10), it was wonderful to see such a large turnout!
That being said, Taunton Library was having a simultaneous Drag Storytime that was known about prior by some antifascist groups, but not defended. Neo-nazis of NSC took advantage of the absence of antifascists to attack this event. Despite claiming to be the pinnacle of masculine culture and strength, they’re scared to stand up against supposed degenerates. They were made to maneuver around us as we could not be moved. Our Collective power and presence made them change to an easier target. Had no one come out to defy them it’s almost guaranteed that they would’ve shown up again at Fall River Library.
As antifascists, it's important that we monitor and show out equally at vulnerable areas. Even if reactionaries do not visit those other areas, it's better to stand with them just in case than to be juked by nazis. Going forward, we must be vigilant of all potential targets and be ready to defend them. This will require not only equal promotion of lesser-known events alongside high-profile ones, but also coordination amongst antifascists to facilitate equal presence in the face of reaction.
If they see one event receiving the bulk of attention, reactionaries will more likely shift their focus onto somewhere else. Equal promotion helps to mitigate this tactic by confusing their planning and establishing presence at as many points as possible. With established presence across the board, community defenders must be ready to be ready to adapt to changing situations and ready to coordinate with others and move to reinforce where needed.
