If a mobile app is just a glorified website, it shouldn't be a mobile app.
Just save us all the trouble and make a PWA already.

@atomicpoet@mastodon.social I mostly agree, but converting a website to a native app with something like Capacitor versus a PWA does have its benefits -- using the system webview instead of a wrapped browser usually uses way less battery and gives a bit more performance.
@PeterCxy@comfy.social @atomicpoet@mastodon.social on Android, the PWA version of Lyft uses more battery for me than the installed version, and the Android app is made with either Capacitor or ReactNative IIRC
@thatonecalculator@stop.voring.me @atomicpoet@mastodon.social No, using the system webview is not going to save any battery compared to launching the browser to run a PWA. Unless by "PWA" you mean an app with its full browser engine, but that is not what PWA means.
@thatonecalculator@stop.voring.me @atomicpoet@mastodon.social If it is React Native then it is really not at all the same thing as a PWA. React Native does not even have a browser engine for rendering -- it just runs a JavaScript interpreter and everything ends up being rendered through whatever native UI toolkit available on the target platform.
