@khan @Junes this is strange to me. The Prestige is a movie that I enjoyed but didn't find to be exceptionaly good. But three people I hold in high regard rank it as one of their favourite movies.
1. Girl I had crush on and I think was ready to leave bf for me if I weren't a fuck up
2. Prominent activist I know in the dissident right
3. Khan

@khan @Junes I just don't know what all three of you see in it that I don't.
Also... one of my best mates loves Christopher Nolan. I liked the Batman movies but... Interstellar didn't really vibe with me and that's one of his favourites.

@PonyPanda @Junes another one of my favorites is memento and that's an early nolan movie. I can understand not vibing with interstellar though. I didn't really like it the first time I saw it because it felt too tidy with the time travel stuff. I like the prestige because of the themes of showmanship and letting passion and obsession consume you until you become something else. wreck it ralph is a dumb kids movie but part of why I liked it was because it also had a character being consumed by a desire to be the best, and his true form looks sickly because of all the corruption he has endured

@khan @Junes most why I disliked Interstellar is because of it's premise. There's some vague disaster scourging the world and it's all the result of our own folly for not investing in space exploration. There's a polemic not so subtly hidden in there and it's shitting on us for not being interested in space shit. Our inability to give a fuck will doom the world but those chosen space nerds will save it. And then the rest of the movie flexes on us by showing us how well the filmmakers understand time relativity and space shit. The whole time I watched that movie... all I could see was my friend smugly looking down on space illiterate plebs.
And add to that how utterly retarded the time travel morse code shit is.
I might watch The Prestige again with all through of you in mind as I try to see it through your eyes. When you talk about how they're consumed by the desire to be the best at something, it does make me think about that girl I liked and the activist.

@randbot @khan @Junes
I didn't like Interstellar because my Redditor friend likes it and I couldn't not see the Reddit energy in it.

@PonyPanda @randbot @Junes true I remember thinking it felt like NASA propaganda if such a thing could even exist
