This blue jay was on the ground foraging when suddenly it decided to leave. I snapped the photo just after it lifted off the ground. The jay is flying up and toward the camera, its head is turned to its right and up looking in the direction it intends to go. Its beak is black but the area around the eyes are shadowed over. Wings spread is forward, the tips of the mostly blue flight feathers, are black and there is a white stripe that cuts across the width of the feather not far from the base. Its dark legs dangle below as if they just finished pushing off the ground. "Large, crested songbird with broad, rounded tail. Blue Jays are smaller than crows, larger than robins. White or light gray underneath, various shades of blue, black, and white above." - allaboutbirds.org
