If your timeline is too empty, try using these methods to find interesting accounts to follow:
If you're following so many people that you keep missing posts by certain accounts, use the notification bell:

If there's a particular topic you want to follow closely, you might want to follow hashtags and join groups. Groups are especially effective as they federate more easily (more info: https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-groups-on-the-fediverse/). If there isn't a group for what you want, it's very easy to set one up.
