Diagram of a moka pot. It's very similar in design, except that it has a second chamber on top of the coffee basket, and the basket is just above the water chamber. Water flows up the tube through the coffee bed and filters, then up the rest of the tube, and finally into a second chamber so the brewed coffee doesn't mix with the water in the boiling chamber.

   @VideoGameArchitect they're very similar, but a moka pot is an evolution of that design with a collection chamber separate from the boiler chamber so the brewed coffee doesn't mix with the boiling water. They're really cool brewers, and very good when used correctly, just seem like very finicky things the few times I've used them, so they can end up with very bitter, disgusting coffee *like* a percolator, but they can also make absolutely fabulous coffee, if you know what you're doing, which I know because a girl I was dating years ago had a boyfriend who used one as his daily brewer and he made amaaaaazing coffee with it.
