In several states, existing laws encourage vigilantism, while new laws are giving power to private citizens to enforce extremist policing of our private lives and our schools. Witness Kyle Rittenhouse, who crossed state lines while armed to “protect” businesses in Kenosha but wound up taking the lives of two people. Or Greg and Travis McMichael, the murderers of Ahmaud Arbury.
