PSA: If you want to link to a YouTube video but don’t like Google’s¹ relentless spying and data-grabbing, you can easily use a proxy.
1. Copy the 11 digits/characters ID from the YouTube URL. It’s either the last 11 or the ones after “watch?v=”, like so:
youtube.com/watch?v=VOv3cbRoRdY
or
youtu.be/VOv3cbRoRdY
or
www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOv3cbRoRdY&list=PL6a6Laxx0cSO_mzsL-njicP9l3gGcCA5I&index=1
are all pointing to the YouTube ID
VOv3cbRoRdY
2. Append this ID to an Invidious URL of your choice, like so:
https://invidious.snopyta.org/w/VOv3cbRoRdY
or
https://vid.puffyan.us/w/VOv3cbRoRdY
or
https://yewtu.be/w/VOv3cbRoRdY
Note that between the base URL and the ID there’s this bit: /w/
Invidious also works similar to YouTube, like so:
https://yewtu.be/watch?v=VOv3cbRoRdY
Here’s a list of officially recommended Invidious instances:
