When Danny Ocean’s gang broke into the casino vaults in Ocean’s Eleven, they were armed with explosives, tear gas grenades and heavy-duty climbing gear. In Netflix’s Money Heist, the robbers infiltrating the Royal Mint of Spain brought M16 and Heckler & Koch G36 assault rifles, jackhammers and welding torches. A thief in Maryland attempted a rather less sophisticated operation this week, armed only with a stolen three-month-old kitten named Magnolia as he attempted to rob a bankShortly before the attempted robbery, the suspect entered the Pet Supplies Plus on Baltimore Avenue in Beltsville and made off with the tuxedo kitten. “Magnolia, our sweet three-and-a-half-month-old tuxedo kitten, had quite the adventure today after being stolen from her adoption habitat at Pet Supplies Plus in Beltsville,” a social media post from the rescue shelter Beltsville Community Cats read. According to Beltsville Community Cats, the man then walked across the parking lot to a nearby PNC bank branch and tried to use Magnolia as an accessory in his attempted robbery. The shelter wrote online: “He asked the bank manager to hold the kitten while he wrote a note, then handed the note to a teller demanding all the cash.”
