Animation of atmospheric mid-level relative humidity from today through Monday. It clearly depicts an area of elevated mid-level moisture moving northwestward across California and the Great Basin over the weekend into early next week. This feature, in between an offshore low pressure system and large ridge over the interior West, could generate thunderstorms will little or no rainfall initially (mainly over the mountains of CA and NV, but with a slight chance of dry lightning elsewhere).

Along the western flank of the gigantic interior west-central U.S. ridge, monsoonal moisture will surge northwestward across California and the Great Basin. This could bring some initially dry thunderstorms, including over parts of CA (slight chance coastal areas), Sun-Mon. #CAwx
