TIL Accelerometers in Android phones are sensitive enough to detect vibrations from earthquakes up to 2 mins before seismic waves reach the surface - then can alert users to location & magnitude. Over 11.4m people in Venezuela received these early warnings on Wednesday.
It’s too early to tell if this saved lives - but we're hoping it made some difference.
