A small cluster of aspen trees in warm golden and yellow autumn foliage stands brilliantly illuminated against a near-black shadowed forest backdrop, their slender white trunks rising from a field of pale dry grass that glows in the same warm directional light. The tight grouping of trees — a tall central trio flanked by smaller companions on either side — gives the scene an intimate, familial quality, as though the trees have gathered closely together. This beautifully lit autumn nature photograph from the Canadian Rockies captures the magic of a single shaft of light finding its subject against the darkness.
