   Could be interpreted, sure. According to wikkypeeja, scholarly research liked that idea for a while but it dead-ended: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hieronymus_Bosch#Interpretation .
   
   Mainly what I was implying was that it is possible to interpret visual art as being supportive of several different doctrines and that you can get more out of it than the author put into it. A lot of his work was very conventionally Catholic. So we've got two interpretations of that image with Christ in the garden and there's a conventional reading of the image and a Catharist reading of it and Occam's Razor: it's probably the conventional reading because you see other work from Bosch that definitely contradicts Catharism. Interesting to think about other readings of it, you know, fun shit, and you've gotta swim against the current to find anything interesting, but I don't think you wanna jump the gun and draw too many conclusions about which kind of heretic he was (Catholic or Cathar).    Well, sure, but there was a lot of that in Leonardo's work, and a lot of those guys hated the Catholic Church but needed to pay rent. Michelangelo also.

   I don't think that's the case but I think it is interesting to consider different interpretations of works and less interesting to argue conclusions. Sometimes the author doesn't even hold the opinions depicted: Milton wrote Paradise Lost, everyone said "This is brilliant, he depicted Satan as a tragic hero", that upset him, he tried to rewrite it, and Satan came out looking even *more* like a tragic hero. There's not a lot we know about Bosch.
