This is a black and white street photo in landscape format of an open air chess game in the foreground with further chess games in the background. Bryant Park, NYC (2013). To the right of centre is a middle-aged African-American man leaning forward over a small round metal table and moving a white bishop in the corner of the far side of the board. The opponent is out of view to the left. Our chess player has short greying hair and is wearing a black 'Steelers' sports jacket. While he is sitting on a folding metal park chair, only his waist up is visible. Behind our player and to the right is a seated middle-aged male spectator wearing a dark trilby like hat, sunglasses and a light jacket. A further male spectator is seated along the left edge of the photo, a senior man wearing a baseball cap, prescription glasses and a dark chequered shirt. Both these men are studying the game intently and are slightly blurred out of focus. In the more distant background but still neighbouring our chess game, are numerous further chess games, all being played on the same small round metal park tables: the crowd of players and spectators being heavily blurred out of focus with increasing distance. The location is Bryant Park in the centre of mid-town New York City.
