@darnell That hurts so fucking bad.
It would be one thing to lose, if we really truly were in a minority and our ideas were truly losers. But we lost due to turnout. Is it because she's black? Indian? A woman? Incompetence? Inexperienced? Speaks word salads when off teleprompter? Bad Policy?
Or AI? TikTok? Twitter?
Or low wages and high costs?
The Commission is proposing a directive for registering organisations that promote the interest of third countries.
This is just plain bad.
It won't work, but it opens the door for arbitrary stigmatisation of NGO's and #researchers

"May we give the reigning order a good death."
I've got a new essay, "Notes on Old Religion for New Network Sovereigns," exploring how the Network State concept is cribbing from religion, and how religious legacies can help us sort the good from the bad.
It's part of a series: https://globalgovernanceprogramme.eui.eu/new-network-sovereignties-the-rise-of-non-territorial-states/
In honor of people using generative AI to grade papers and out of morbid curiosity, I've run some poems through a generative AI and asked it to analyze them and the results are _all sorts_ of terrible. Like just. Remarkably bad.
It often thinks the poetry is good (which is what I would expect, the poetry is in fact very good), but its analysis of how and why is just out in left field.
@dushman@den.raccoon.quest @phnt@fluffytail.org @Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com Proprietary software that's loaded from ROM is totally cool and freedom respecting but as soon as it's loaded from storage by the OS it suddenly becomes bad. It's not "totally cool and freedom respecting". Everyone agrees that this situation is not perfect or ideal, but it is the best option that we have as of right now.
If a moderator/self-appointed spokesperson for an instance replies to a thread pointing out horribly racist and anti-semitic posts that they should block, but only as "followers only" and simply with "hope everyone is enjoying the holidays", is that bad?
It feels bad.
It's an instance that basically any of my followers would presume it's OK to federate with.
