Short version: book display with tiny books. Fuller description: Close-up of a hand-made display at family-run independent bookshop Kristian F Møller in Aarhus, Denmark. It advertises the Bookpack monthly subscription at 149 kroner per month – great value in a country where one book usually costs about 250 kr or 300 kr (€35 or €40). Surrounded by colourful coffee mugs and books and gift cards, there is a tiny wooden bookshelf about the size of an average paperback. On each of its two shelves, about twenty teeny colourful matchbox-sized ‘books’, each with the author name clear on the spine. The covers are faithful to the real book covers. Author names include Helle Helle. RE Kuang. Patti Smith. Bonnie Garmus. Murakami. Katrine Marie Guldager. Bernadine Evaristo. Douglas Stewart. Thomas Mann. Ann Patchett. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Our local independent bookshop has a monthly ‘mystery book’ subscription. The staff have hand-crafted teeny tiny editions of each title they’ve included so far. Each book cover is a faithful rendition of the real one. Amazon could never. AI could never.
