A bare plain of dry grass with a giant juniper tree. The base of the juniper tree is hollowed out by fires that came through the area, but the tree is very alive. Behind it, the 30 foot tall black, steel US border fence is being constructed. The fence encroaches onto the view from each side, leaving a gap in the middle behind the tree, showing the last bit of unbroken landscape.

Another photographer and I went out today to survey the damage and document what we saw. I particularly like the composition provided by this ancient juniper tree and the gap in the fence. This is a phone snap, but I shot a lot of this tree with my big camera.
