There is a clear eye-ring which is diagnostic. This is a Swainson's Thrush, a common visitor during migration, one of the genus Catharus that look so similar.    Still working on the Thrushes, down to the difficult ones. We see (should see) Swainson's, Wood, and Gray Cheeked Thrushes in our area. They have very different songs, all of them hauntingly beautiful. They all look very much alike, and can represent a challenge to ID.

   Swainson's Thrushes move through our area in fall and spring migrations to rest and refuel. They seem to show up all at once overnight filling the woods with their call. . They overwinter in Central and South America and nest in Canada, Alaska and Mountainous NE an NW. The song and the eye ring are diagnostic
